1) The song/album/artist you’re obsessed with now

Well its not a House LP and i would not say i am obsessed with it now but i feel its relevant now is James Mason- Rhythm of Life LP. James Mason was a multi instrumentalist that took influence from Soul, Jazz Disco, funk, rare groove and did this killer LP on the 70′s. There was one track that he did that i love that was not on the LP called “I Want Your Love” and until now was an extremely expensive rare record. However the good people at Rush Hour in Amsterdam have re-liscened and re-issued it and now its available alongside another very special proto house track called “Nightgruv”. This is worthy of your attention.

2) What’s your secret talent

It wouldn’t be a secret if i told you would it. Oh shit….i can’t think of any!!! Ok……..i can run very fast. I was the fastest runner in my whole school. I’m also pretty ok at roller skating.

3) Which records never left your dj bag

Records like “The Saga of The Evil Queen” by Larry Heard”, “Johnick Planet” by Johnick and “Birth 3000″ by Los Hermanos. Records that i was playing in the first years of secretsundaze – 10 years ago now and i included on secretsundaze volume 1 my first official mix CD.

4) Tell us verything about “Two Armadillos”

Martin Dawson and i have been writing together now since 2006 and have released 11 or 12 EP’s on a host of House / Techno labels. We write from his Berlin studio that he shares with Ewan Pearson and Sasse. We have decided to start our own self titled label called Two Armadillos releasing at the moment just music from us. The first 3 releases are actually 3 parts of an LP that is supposed to be seen as one body of work. The LP is called “Golden Age Thinking” and this is lifted from a moment in “Midnight in Paris” by Woody Allen. Two Armadillos do not live in the past but have a healthy respect for music of days gone by focussiing on creating timeless tracks.
We DJ separately but are looking to work on a “Live” set for later in the summer. I am very happy at the moment with what we are doing and just wanna keep going and love working with Martin too.

5) Close your eyes and think about the word Abattoir, what comes into your head?

Of course its a dark word, very moody n mysterious if you don’t think about the real meaning. Ok like a dark sanctuary!

Giles Smith will be djing for Abattoir next friday at the brand new HYSTERIA Club. Facebook event HERE
